The Thief (THF) class was first mentioned on 27 June 2007, when the 300-point benchmark Goldgrabber was unveiled to the public. On 6 July, just before the week-long break in play thanks to E3, Matt revealed the Thief's Medal as the 350-point benchmark. The Medal was also available to players for a few hours when the Merchant Monkey set up shop on 17 July.
On 2 August, Matt hinted that a certain class "can use Sneak Gloves more effectively." Several brain surgeons were consulted and it's been concluded that this is probably the class to which he was referring. Since then, Vyselocke has confirmed this to be true at Level 10 and has done his usual job of stating the obvious.
The Thief class is obtained by using the Thief's Medal.
